16th February 2011. Edwyn Collins live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
It's pretty amazing that after suffering a near fatal stroke in 2005, Edwyn Collins has been recording again let alone playing gigs. He shuffles slowly on to the stage with a walking stick as the stroke is still there to see on his right side, and he sits on his amp. The warmth towards Edwyn from the crowd really is a joy to see. Of course we have Paul Cook on drums who is looking fit and lean and getting younger looking too. Nice to see Paul keeping busy outside of Sex Pistols with this band, Man Raze and reforming Chiefs Of Relief last year for that one off special.
In 2009 Edwyn accepted the Legend Award at The Q Awards and also got an Ivor Norvello Award for Songwriting. His album Losing Sleep from last year came out to great reviews across the board. The 75 mins set included Losing Sleep, Make Me Feel Again, then he was joined by Romeo Stodat from The Magic Numbers for It Dawns On Me. Also good were The Wheels Of Love and Home Again. Then Ryan Jarman from The Cribs came on for What Is My Role? and a superb version of his classic from his Orange Juice days Rip It Up. Also good was Do It Again and a brilliant version of his big hit A Girl Like You. Overall a really enjoyable show.

22nd April "Malcolm McLaren - music's rebel to the last. The architect of punk, Malcolm McLaren, remained a rebel to the last as mourners said farewell today to a soundtrack of Sid Vicious's My Way. Hundreds of people lined the streets of north London in tribute as he was carried by horse-drawn carriage in a spray-painted coffin bearing the words "Too Fast To Live, Too Young To Die."
Mourners - including McLaren's former partner Dame Vivienne Westwood, Adam Ant, Bob Geldof, Glen Matlock and Paul Cook - sang along to McLaren's recording of the Max Bygraves song You Need Hands, which had featured in The Great Rock ' N' Roll Swindle film.
Dame Vivienne and McLaren's son Joseph Corre - who created the Agent Provocateur lingerie firm - read out tributes to his father from those who could not attend, including one from Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones. Joking about McLaren's fall-out with the band over royalties, the letter said: "Dear Malcolm, did you take the money with you? Is it in the coffin? Do you mind if I come back tomorrow and dig you up? I always had a soft spot for you. You showed me a lot when I was 17 ... and I owe you a lot for showing me a different side to life." " Full report in The Independent

10th April Steve Jones remembers Malcolm McLaren: "I was upset when I heard the news, as I’ve always had a soft spot for Malcolm. I knew him since I was 17 before the Pistols formed - I used to drive him around in Vivienne Westwood’s car to the tailors in London in the days of the ‘Let It Rock’ clothing store. Malcolm was definitely the Brian Epstein of punk - without him it wouldn’t have happened the way it did. I stayed friends with him throughout the years despite some of our differences. He came on ‘Jonesy’s Jukebox’ a couple of years ago, and that’s a good memory. But my fondest memory of Malcolm, and I loved the guy, was his birthday gift to me when I turned 21 - he got me a hooker and some heroin."

26th March Steve spoke recently to 30 Days Out at SXSW in Austin where he played a gig at a Best Buy store, with Michael Des Barres joining him for Anarchy In The UK. Steve on his radio future: "Well, I have a couple of irons in the fire right now … there's another station in L.A. that might be getting something together along the lines of Indie 103.1, and I could do that. I've also been talking to Sirius (satellite radio) and could do something for them too. Right now I'm just taking it easy and sort of enjoying the down time, you know?" Steve on The Stooges:"I have talked with Iggy about doing something with him again, maybe playing guitar in a line-up of the Stooges. Not that I could hope to replace Ron (Asheton, who died earlier this year) but we could mix it up a bit, do a few Pistols songs. You know, we were influenced by the Stooges … the Sex Pistols did “No Fun” on our American tour.... it won't happen this year because Iggy doesn't want to tour. Maybe next year … don't really know what form it could take, really, it's all just talk. " http://30daysout.wordpress.com/

17th January Jonesy's Jukebox has ended on Indie 103.1 after five years.
News release: "...After five years as host of the flagship Indie 103.1 radio show "Jonesy's Jukebox", Steve Jones is currently exploring other options and is in talks to expand "Jonesy's Jukebox" due to yesterday's (January 15) announcement that Los Angeles radio station Indie 103.1 has ceased broadcasting.
The SEX PISTOLS guitarist and music icon was heard by fans around the world on "Jonesy's Jukebox" — via Indie 103.1 and its web site — for two hours every weekday since 2004. Jones is known for breaking new artists and his eclectic musical taste, which he brought to the show every day. Based on his vast musical knowledge and longtime commitment to music (supporting both icons and up-and-coming artists), his interviews were both personal and freewheeling. Many artists came away from interviews with Jones feeling that it was the best experience they'd ever had with a radio interview.
"I want to thank everybody for listening to the show and supporting the station," says Jones. "It was an experience I truly enjoyed and the support I got from my fans and artists who came on the show was just incredible. I'd like to think we broke some rules and that everyone had a bloody good time. Thanks for listening." "

26th January Gig Review Carbon/Silicon at The Inn On The Green 25th January 2008.
The band came on stage at 10.45pm. It was really hot and humid in this small club that holds about 200 and has a tiny stage only 6 inches off the floor, so you can only see the heads and shoulders of the band. Mick Jones and Tony James are smiling and really enjoying themselves. The first 40 mins of their 80 mins set was a bit samey but got much better later with great versions of "The News" and "What The Fuck".
The encore was dream ticket punk rock heaven, as first Sex Pistol Glen Matlock sang vocals and played bass for a belting "Twist And Shout" and then Sex Pistol Paul Cook joined them on drums for "Steppin Stone". So, on stage were members of The Clash, Sex Pistols, and Generation X. In the crowd was comedian Noel Fielding and Razorlight singer Johnny Borrell. An amazing finish to a pukka night. Gig Review by Ray Morrissey.
Paul
Cook and Glen Matlock both took to the stage last night with Carbon/Silicon at the Inn On The Green, Ladbroke Grove, West London. Glen came on for the encore
and played bass and sang lead vocals on Twist & Shout. Paul then came on and
took over the drum kit for the second encore of Stepping Stone, with Glen still
on bass & lead vocals. Carbon/Silicon are of course Mick Jones' (The Clash)
and Tony James' (Generation X) highly acclaimed group.
