The Professionals 2017
The Professionals Press Release March 16th 2017:
"The Professionals arrived on the scene in 1979 following the demise of the Sex Pistols, but split just 3 years later.
In celebration of the release of a three-disc set by the Universal Music Group, The Professionals reformed in October 2015 (minus Steve Jones and with the addition of Tom Spencer) for a critically acclaimed, sold out 100 Club show. In 2016, the band returned to the capital to play a co-headline show with the Rich Kids at Islington Academy. This would be the last show before the band parted ways with guitar player Ray McVeigh.
Fast-forward to 2017 and the new band spearheaded by Paul Cook, Paul Myers and Tom Spencer are set to release the first material under the Professionals name in 35 years with the full blessing of founding member Steve Jones.
We’re in the process of finishing a very special album and we’ll be starting a preorder campaign through Pledgemusic at the end of the month so you can follow the journey as we build up to the official release later in the year.
So far the album already features a handful of special guests, all lending their distinctive sounds including Marco Pirroni (Adam and The Ants), Billy Duffy (The Cult) and of course, Steve Jones. More guests to be confirmed as we get nearer to the release date.

We hope you’ll join us on this next exciting chapter of the band.
Paul Cook, Paul Myers & Tom Spencer."

MEET THE NEW RECRUIT
TOM SPENCER

TOM SPENCER

Welcome Tom

Tom introduces himself as the new Professional:

Who the fuck is Steve Jones? He's one of the reasons I play guitar. I was ten when 'Never Mind The Bollocks' came out. My dad bought it and hated it, so gave it to me. It was an early copy with a free single. It still has its 2.99 Woolworth sticker on it. Doubt if it's worth anything now, cos I played it to death on a shitty old gramophone system - weighing down the needle with pennies to stop the jumping.

I bought the Swindle singles as they came out.....and then The Professionals stuff. My point is, I'd love to see Jones up there playing it, but right now it's not an option. He's in LA and isn't tempted So, should the other three members not bother? Should I have turned the job down?.....bollocks to that! There are great songs that never got a proper live airing at the time.

Rehearsals have been great, hearing those songs come to life. There are three legendary original members involved. Cookie of course, then Ray McVeigh and Paul Myers.
Why me? I've spent years on the road, touring the world, with bands from Big Boy Tomato, The Lurkers, Sugarsnatch, The Yoyos, Ginger Wildheart, The Dogs D'Amour, The Loyalties and now The Men They Couldn't Hang. All those bands have turned me into......well....a Professional.

I'm not Steve Jones but it's an honour to front the band. So I'm going to give those songs the respect, energy and attitude they deserve.

As for Steve, Tom has told Kick Down Thre Doors that Steve's involvement cannot be ruled out completely. There is a possible scenario... watch this space.

Ray McVeigh Interview

YouTube: "Australian music guru Ian "Molly" Meldrum interviews Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones who's slightly inebriated and shirty, and a rather sober and mild mannered Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook. This is the first interview by any of the Sex Pistols on or for Australian television." 15th November 1977. youtube.com/watch [thanks Herve Labyre, Bobe Copeland, Barry McKay]
